Ten minutes is the anti-excuse length

Nobody genuinely does not have ten minutes. That is what makes this the most useful shelf in the library: it removes the last argument. Put one on while the kettle boils, or between two work calls, or at nine in the evening when you realise you have barely stood up all day.

You will cover roughly 1,200 steps. On its own that is not a training plan. Done most days, alongside the walking you already do, it is the difference between a sedentary week and an active one — and it keeps the routine warm on the days when a longer session is not on the cards.

How to use the short ones well

Treat them as building blocks rather than as a lesser option. Two ten-minute workouts back to back give you a solid twenty. Three spread across the day give you thirty and, because you have stood up and moved three separate times, arguably a better day for your back than one thirty-minute block would have been.

They are also the right choice on the day after a hard session, when your legs want movement but not effort. Pick a gentle or beginner-tagged ten, keep the pace conversational, and think of it as maintenance rather than training.

What ten minutes will and will not do

It will lift your mood, loosen your hips, warm your hands and feet, and interrupt a long sitting stretch — all of which matter more than they sound. It will not, by itself, get you to a weekly activity target. If ten-minute walks are becoming your default rather than your fallback, take that as a good sign and try adding one fifteen-minute session a week. The library sorts by length so you can see exactly what the next step up looks like.

Start where you can keep going. Ten minutes done daily beats forty minutes planned and skipped, every single time.
