Quiet workouts for apartments, with no jumping
You want to sweat, the person downstairs wants to sleep. Walking workouts keep both feet low, so you get real cardio without a single thud.
Choose a no-jumping walking workout: every move keeps at least one foot on the floor, so it sounds like someone walking across a room. Wear cushioned trainers, put a rug or mat down, and land heel-to-toe rather than stamping. There are 135 free ones in the Glow Walk Club library, from 10 to 80 minutes.
Why walking workouts are quiet
Noise in flats comes from impact: jumping jacks, burpees, skipping, anything where both feet leave the floor and land together. Walking workouts replace those with marches, steps, side-taps and knee lifts. Your heart rate still climbs (the typical session runs at 125 steps a minute, well into moderate intensity) but the floor barely notices.

Five ways to make any workout quieter
- Trainers, not bare feet. Cushioned soles absorb most of the sound.
- A rug or exercise mat. Even a folded yoga mat takes the edge off.
- Heel to toe. Roll through the foot instead of landing flat.
- Over a joist or near a wall. Floors flex least near the edges of a room.
- Turn jumps into steps. Any jack becomes a step-out jack; any skip becomes a knee lift.
Best times to work out in a flat
Mid-morning and early evening are kindest; avoid early mornings and late nights if your floors are thin. A no-jumping workout is usually fine any time people are awake.
Common questions
What is the quietest cardio workout for an apartment?
A no-jumping walking workout: marches, side steps and knee lifts keep one foot on the floor, so there is no landing impact.
Will my downstairs neighbours hear a walking workout?
Very unlikely if you wear trainers and choose a no-jumping session. It sounds like normal walking.
Can you do cardio without jumping?
Yes. Walking workouts reach moderate intensity through pace and arm movement instead of impact; the median one runs at 125 steps a minute.
